The short version
We compared 5 tools. 3 list a free plan, though free plans often cover only part of the product or a small church. Paid starting prices we could confirm begin at $72 a month. Giving fees are a running cost, so compare them along with the subscription.
What the IRS expects for donations
- For a single gift of $250 or more, the IRS expects the donor to hold a written acknowledgment from the church before claiming the deduction. source
- The acknowledgment should name the church, state the cash amount or describe a non-cash gift without valuing it, and say whether any goods or services were given in return. source
- If the only thing a donor received was intangible religious benefits, the acknowledgment can say so instead of giving a value. source
How to choose
- Count your active people first: many plans change price or limits with church size.
- Multiply your yearly online giving by the card fee. It can matter more than the subscription.
- List who will use the system each week, then test those tasks during a trial.
